Tenwek is a missionary hospital that began in 1937 as a single-nurse dispensary. Tenwek has now grown to a 260-bed hospital and training center with five operating rooms. In 2010, the hospital treated 120,000 outpatients, 14,000 inpatients, and performed over 3,000 major surgeries. Tenwek Hospital is well equipped compared to the poor neighboring villages.
